“Together We Can” Inspires Mumbai

After creating history with 1500 supporters walking for a single NGO and being the highest fund raising NGO in 2011, spirited supporters of Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care (SRLC) took to the streets of Mumbai once again on January 15, for the Dream Run of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2012, to spread the message - “Together we can make a difference.”

SRLC supporters came together forming RAJdhani Express - a train with 10 bogies depicting the 10 Cares of SRLC: Health Care, Educational Care, Child Care, Woman Care, Tribal Care, Humanitarian Care, Community Care, Emergency Relief Care, Animal Care and Environmental Care. This train was specially designed to depict a holistic programme for the upliftment of a rural village whilst generating awareness about issues that plague society. The human train won SRLC the Kingfisher Bindaas Bandhe Award.

Remarkably raising over Rs. 95 lakh for social activities under this charity event, SRLC was declared as the NGO having the maximum number of Dream Teamers: 17 in all, of which two Dream Champions raised over Rs. 10 lakh each, three Dream Wizards raised over Rs. 5 lakh each and twelve Dream Makers raised over Rs. 1 lakh each.

Amongst the Dream Teamers was the unique mother-daughter duo of Dr. Bijal Mehta and Meera Mehta. An eye surgeon, Dr. Bijal Mehta is one of the Dream Champions. But the most heartening feat was by 13-year-old Meera Mehta, this year’s youngest Dream Maker, raising over Rs. 1 lakh for SRLC. Meera raised funds entirely on her own, through the support of her friends and family who were greatly inspired by her commitment to campaign for SRLC. Being a ‘Chocolate Sevak’ of Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur, Meera also added to the fund by selling chocolates. Several children like Meera are inspired by Pujyashri Gurudev and are inclined towards social initiatives from a tender age.

Supporting SRLC in the Marathon with immense enthusiasm were young minds from rural pockets of India. Tribal students from Shrimad Rajchandra Gurukul, the Secondary and Higher Secondary School for Science in Karanjveri, Dharampur (Gujarat) came together to uphold the cause. This was a rare and one-of-its-kind experience for the students, marking their first trip to Mumbai city.

Advocating SRLC in the Marathon were dignitaries and celebrities like Radhika Sinha - Principal of Aditya Birla World Academy, film actress Aarti Chhabria and film actor Aditya Raj Kapoor. Corporate entities like SBI Mutual Fund, HDFC Limited, Jasani Group, Calyx Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Limited, Wadhwa Developers and L.I.F.E Diamond Jewellery extended their support in appreciation of the causes promoted by SRLC.

SRLC’s participation at the Marathon received a special mention in leading newspapers such as The Times of India, The Indian Express, DNA, Hindustan Times, The Asian Age, Afternoon, Janmabhoomi, Mumbai Samachar, Navbharat Times as well as on television channels like Star Plus, Star News, NDTV 24 x 7, Zee News, P7, Etv Marathi etc.

Onlookers enjoyed the colourful SRLC parade that lit up the streets of Mumbai with banners, drums, song and dance, spreading the message of social awareness and change. Indeed, the Dream Run was a stretch of 6 km; but the path to spreading love and care into the interiors of the country remains the journey SRLC strives to make with deep purpose and heady passion, under the auspices of Pujyashri Gurudev. Together we can make a difference… and we will.
