Intense Tug of War

As a seeker progresses on the spiritual journey, it becomes apparent that spiritual practice and selfless service are deeply intertwined with one another. Seva is a devotee’s need - an offering to the Sadguru for the infinite grace experienced.

Today, by the inspiration of Param Krupalu Dev Shrimad Rajchandraji and able guidance of Pujya Gurudevshri, several individuals offer selfless seva to the Mission. The annual Sevak Retreat is a time when sevaks get to interact with one another and with other departments. It is an opportunity to gain new insights, develop strong teambuilding skills while reinforcing the purpose of service.

The Sevak Retreat 2019 was held at the Ashram Dharampur from Friday, 11th Jan to Sunday, 13th Jan ’19 along with the SRY Sports event.

SRY Sports focuses on allowing athletes to play with the goal of being in the present moment and to enjoy the game. Teams of all ages competed in various sports like volleyball, basketball, cricket, tug of war, table tennis and athletics. Games were intermittently paused to allow players brief moments of introspection to check their equanimity.

Amidst seva sessions and games, all were blessed with an enlightening Sadguru Udghosh on Saturday morning. Pujya Gurudevshri outlined 15 salient points on the differences between a victim and leader mentality. His words of wisdom with humorous anecdotes were effective in inspiring a leap towards greatness.

Participants of the Sevak Retreat engaged in brainstorming and interactive learning through invigorating workshops. A few outstanding sevaks from various Mission departments were blessed to have dinner with Pujya Gurudevshri and were bestowed certificates for their passion for seva.

SRY Sports was in full swing with ongoing matches throughout the day. The entire sports event was divided into four colour coded houses named Maitri, Pramod, Karuna and Madhyasthata. Each house earned points based on their performance in various sports activities.

Athletics, basketball and volleyball finals were held amidst great cheerleading on Saturday evening. Pujya Gurudevshri, even though suffering from bodily pain, graced the finals with His presence in the Amphitheater. A quiz on the Mission and its activities was a unique non-sporting event for the audience to check their knowledge about the Mission.

Matches of cricket and tug of war took place on the final day of the SRY sports event. Pujya Gurudevshri and seekers gathered in the Large Event Area to witness the games and final awards ceremonies. Pujya Gurudevshri lovingly awarded trophies, certificates and medals to several participants.

Sevaks and players of all ages, skill levels and experience came together, taking home valuable lessons from their Master Coach in this first enriching retreat of 2019 at the Ashram.
