6. Community Care
To love all and care for all is his need.
The community is an integral part of society. People with similar beliefs and ways of life come together to live in a particular type of ecosystem - through which fraternity and security grow. It thus forms a unique social fabric stitched together with strong feelings of togetherness, upon which developmental initiatives can be launched. Strengthening community bonds and supporting community-based activities are important efforts to ensure social harmony and progress. Supporting community parks, town infrastructure and cleanliness initiatives help improve the civic levels of an area as well.
‘Community Care’ aims to undertake initiatives that strengthen community bonding.
Shrimad Rajchandra Upvan is an initiative to build community gardens to improve the quality of life. It is a medium for recreation, exercise, social interaction, beautification of the neighbourhood and overall community development. It acts as a welcome oasis and also as an important stress-buster. In commemoration of Shrimad Rajchandraji’s 150th Birth Anniversary year, a Shrimad Rajchandra Udyan was inaugurated amidst the busy streets of Zaveri Bazaar and encompasses a beautiful mural of Shrimadji and Mahatma Gandhiji within a garden.
Shrimad Rajchandra Pavilion is an initiative to construct sports pavilions. The first such pavilion was constructed within the Mahatma Gandhi Ground, Vansda, housing a community hall, a library, and a space for indoor games and activities for children. Over 350 schools and 25,000 children use this vibrant public space today. Shrimad Rajchandra Pavilion offers safe and accessible outdoor play and exercise spaces and promotes physical fitness.Contribute
Shrimad Rajchandra Pustakalay is an initiative to donate libraries to foster the joy of reading. Libraries teach children how to share, to be engaged in their communities, and to explore a new world through books. By donating libraries to local community schools, the aim is to inculcate a keen curiosity and love for knowledge in young students.
Shrimad Rajchandra Computer Classes provide subsidised computer education in rural areas. Computer classes are conducted for the community so that a maximum number of people become familiar with technology and maximise their future career opportunities. Moreover, this project gives an opportunity for companies to donate their e-waste in the form of old computers, which are in turn used in this training programme.
Shrimad Rajchandra Cleanliness Drives is an initiative through which sanitation and cleanliness drives are organised in public places. These drives raise awareness and promote knowledge. Regular cleanliness drives have been undertaken to support the “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” launched by the Government of India.
Shrimad Rajchandra Prisoner Upliftment and Reform Efforts (PURE) focus on the development of the prisoners’ spiritual and moral values, physical and mental health, as well as education and skills. This programme provides a healing touch to prisoners and leads them towards a better life in the future.
It has been estimated that only one-third of those who are currently in jail in India have been convicted and are serving a sentence. The rest are still awaiting a trial, which means that they could be proven innocent. This time of waiting for a verdict can be stressful for those who have been imprisoned, as well as for their families.
Under this programme spiritual discourses, value-based sessions, meditation, yoga techniques and pranayama are conducted for the prisoners. They are also provided with books on spirituality, philosophy and culture to help cultivate positive thought patterns and emotions for a smooth transition into the social life.
